Volunteering at Finca Yuyo

We currently host 2 volunteers whose accommodation is funded by the local association Huelal Totga and the German non-profit “Förderverein Huelal Totga e. V.”. Mid-term we aim to fully fund 4 volunteers (room & board).

We can also host up to 2 additional volunteers. For them we ask for a food cost share, calculated per person, currently averaging USD 4–6 per day.

Principles & Context

• Vegan and drug-free project.
• Critical of CO₂-intensive motorized individual transport.
• A living lab for resource-light life in the tropics, aiming for independence from supermarkets and plastic packaging.
• Preference for volunteers from the region or those arriving by sailboat.
• Transparent documentation of progress and setbacks on our websites.

Funding & Guests

To cover unavoidable costs—internet, electricity, health insurance, maintenance and development—we also rent rooms to people comfortable with a vegan (at least meat-, fish- and egg-free) diet and who respect that this is a drug-free space. This makes Finca Yuyo a good place for people who want to stop harmful habits; we have links to self-help groups.

Research, Learning & Facilities

• Hotspot for tropical plants, birds, snakes, insects—researchers welcome.
• Training space available; projector & screen on site.
• Climbing basics and Spanish classes for beginners.

Political Stance

We are a political project, not a paradise retreat. We take a stand against the destruction of livelihoods and for self-empowerment, dismantling hierarchies and privileges, and a constructive culture of debate. We welcome companions aligned with these values (including an affinity with anarchism).

How to Apply

Please include dates, motivation, relevant experience (e.g., gardening, carpentry, media), and links/references if available. Languages: EN/ES/DE. Minimum stay: ideally 4–6 weeks or longer.
