12 – Ara Project

Learn about Green Macaws and support this amazing project!!

What’s the project about

The Ara Project has been dedicated for nearly 30 years to protect the Green Macaw population along Costa Rica’s Caribbean coast.

To help restore the macaw population, the group has developed different techniques aimed at improving the critically endangered status of the bird.

Some of the most important actions that have enabled conservationists to increase the number of individuals include:

  • Habitat restoration
  • A breeding program in which macaws are raised and then released into the wild
  • Education and collaboration with local communities, raising awareness about the problem and the importance of protecting this endangered species.

As the project take place in a tropical rainforest, you’ll also see other species such as Toucans, monkeys and sloths.
