17 – Manzanillo National Park
About the park
Gandoca-Manzanillo Natural wildlife refugee features a mix of aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems and is jointly managed by public and private entities.
The area is home to a variety of key ecosystems, including yellow-sand beaches, coral reefs, forests, and wetlands
Wildlife 🐾
The refugee is home to over:
– 1231 butterfly species 🦋
– 630 insect species 🐜
– 377 bird species 🐦
– 38 mammal species 🐒
Some of the species you will find here are the Talamanca rocket frog and the three-toed sloth 🦥
How to get there
There are two ways to arrive:
-You can reach the Manzanillo sector by following the main road from Puerto Viejo, heading south for about 25 minutes.
– You can access the Laguna Gandoca sector through the Bribri-Sixaola road, 95 km from the center of Limón.
Practical information
- Opens every day from 8:00 a.m to 4:00 p.m
- Entry to the park is donation-based
- Guided tours are available
