basic rules for working during rain

Regulations for working in rainy weather

1. general guidelines

  • Safety priority: Safety always has priority. Work may only be carried out in the rain if it is safe to do so and appropriate protective measures have been taken.
  • Equipment: All volunteers should wear appropriate equipment such as rain ponchos, waterproof shoes and gloves in rainy weather.

2. categories of work

  • Planting work:
    • Drizzle: Work is possible if the ground does not get too muddy. Breaks should be taken regularly to ensure work remains safe.
    • Rain: Work is only possible if the ground is not too wet and work can be carried out safely.
    • Heavy rain: Work will be canceled as the risk of injury and soil degradation is too high.
  • Harvesting work:
    • Drizzle: Work is possible as long as the fruit or vegetables are not damaged and harvesting can be carried out safely.
    • Rain: Work can continue if conditions allow and the crop is not damaged.
    • Heavy rain: Work will be canceled.
  • Mowing work with electric brush cutter:
    • Drizzle: Work is possible if the lawn is not slippery and safety precautions are followed.
    • Rain: Work will only be carried out if the area is not slippery or dangerous.
    • Heavy rain: Work will be canceled as electrical equipment can become dangerous when wet.
  • Assist with construction and demolition work:
    • Drizzle: Work is possible as long as the safety of the volunteers is not endangered and the structures are not affected by moisture.
    • Rain: Work can continue if safety precautions are in place and work can still be carried out safely.
    • Heavy rain: Work will be canceled.

3. decision criteria by team leader

  • Team leader assessment: The decision whether to continue work in drizzle, rain or heavy rain is left to the team leaders. The team leaders decide on site based on the current weather conditions and safety aspects.
  • Communication: The team leaders must inform all volunteers about the decisions made and any changes.

4. communication

  • Before the start of work: The team leaders make a decision in the morning before the start of work about the execution of the work based on the current weather conditions.
  • During the working day: If the weather changes during the working day, the team leaders check the conditions regularly and inform the employees accordingly.

5. emergency regulations

  • Quick return: In the event of sudden heavy rain or dangerous conditions, team leaders must take immediate action and all volunteers must retreat to safe areas.
  • Weather reports: Team leaders should regularly check the weather forecast to anticipate sudden changes.

This adjustment gives team leaders the responsibility to assess the conditions on the ground and act accordingly while ensuring the safety of the volunteers.

Until further notice, team leaders are Stefan in the odd-numbered weeks and Jule in the even-numbered weeks. The other is the backup in case of absence. As soon as we have volunteers who are with Yuyo or Huelal Totga for a longer period, they can become team leaders.
