Coral Snake (Micrurus mosquitensis)

March 22 the Family from Hungary which rented one of our houses found this animal. We send pictures again to our neighbour the herpetologist.

First we were a bit concerned because it was directly at the house. But we had the following conversation with the herpetologist, which calmed us:

  • S. [22.03.2024 21:02] (Micrurus alleni) ??
  • Herpetologist [22.03.2024 21:06]: No, that is Micrurus mosquitensis. What was the location?
  • S. [22.03.2024 21:07]: Beneath the terrass at the house in an earth hole
  • Herpetologist [22.03.2024 21:07]: Micrurus alleni has a black stripe entering the first yellow band on the head. Nice, they are higly venomous. But very chill and docile, just don’t touch it and they go away by them self
  • S. [22.03.2024 21:09]: So no measures to be taken?
  • Herpetologist [22.03.2024 21:09]: I would just leave it. They move around, so likely ot will be gone in a few minutes. Coral snakes est other snakes, including Terciopelos, so good to have around. I would come and move it, but we are at my wifes family in G. at the moment. We are back on Sunday or Monday
  • S. [22.03.2024 21:14]: Thanks a lot 🙂 greetings.
